Art and Design
In my art and design carousel today we covered the basics of creating abstract markings using graphite pens, charcoal and also acrylic point, we then
Materials: I used a roller: To put the ink onto the perspex, ink: to be put onto the perspex and mark the paper, cartridge paper: our canvas for the ink pattern , Scissors: to cut our paper, graphite stick, charcoal stick, biro pen, white chalk, masking tape, camera.
Processes: one step we took is to cut an A2 piece of paper into 16 pieces of A6 paper to create are markings on, we were then played some music which we drew the beat of to create our markings, we then divided another A2 piece of paper into 10 boxes of random sizes, in these boxes we drew or painted more markings inspired by our first initial markings, in the end we ended up with a very abstract piece which showed lots of movement in my case, later on after the pieces had dried we cut and tour the paper and stuck it together with tape to create strange abstract sculptures, e then placed these into an area with direct light and manipulated the shadows and how the light fell across the paper, we them captured this using a camera creating a very man ray inspired kind of out come, man ray focused very much on light direction and manipulation of light. we also created other species with ink by pressing them in the roller to transfer the pattern and give us our outcome.
Technical Skills: One skill I used was placing my photo subject onto the projector and positioned it in such a way that shadow fed over certain areas giving an emphasis on the 3 dimensional aspect.
I also used the roller to carefully put ink onto a sheet of perspex which we then pressed to create a given pattern on the paper.
During the course of our art carousel we created lots of work, over the course of the first day we created mark making pieces by sketching on cartridge paper with the use of ink pens, graphite sticks, charcoal sticks, biro pens and white chalk, we were played a few different genres of music to sketch to creating a few differing outcomes, one was very calm as we had listened to classical music and one was very wild as we had listened to rock. we were also told different emotions to express in our markings on seperate pieces of paper this ranged from anger to happiness giving us a huge spectrum of drawings, we were also told to repeatedly draw specific shapes on one sheet of paper this left us with a very unique and organic image of un symmetrical patterns off squares circles and triangles.
On the second day of the Art carousel we created textile prints, to do this we took a sheet of perspex and a roller we lightly dipped the roller in ink and created a uniform square patch on the perspex using the roller, we then put different shapes of paper we had cut out directly on to the ink, we then put this threw the roller. after it was threw the roller we took off the shapes of paper carefully and arranged them how we wanted ink side down on a piece of cartridge paper we then put this back through the rolling machine transferring the ink onto the cartridge paper leaving our final outcome printed onto the cartridge paper.
On the third day of our carousel we used our mark making sheets from the first day and folded them in such a way to create a 3D art piece we then arranged our the pieces in such a way on the projector that light fell across them and illuminated certain areas while the absence of light in some areas masking them creating an element in the chiaroscuro effect.
